New Forest and Christchurch residents invited to apply for free road closures for King's coronation street parties
NEW Forest and Christchurch residents keen to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation with a street party are invited to apply for free road closures.
Both New Forest District and BCP councils have waived administration fees as the nation prepares to mark the historic crowning of His Majesty and Her Majesty the Queen Consort.
Festivities will run through a three-day bank holiday weekend, from Saturday to Monday, 6th to 8th May.
The coronation itself takes place on the Saturday morning at Westminster Abbey, with community Coronation Big Lunches and a concert at Windsor Castle the next day.
On the Monday, The Big Help Out will reflect on the legacy of His Majesty’s service and showcase the impact of volunteering within communities.
Street party road closure applications should be sent by Friday 24th March, although NFDC pledged to strive to accommodate those sent afterwards.
BCP Council’s portfolio holder for tourism, culture and vibrant places, Cllr Beverley Dunlop, said: “The King’s coronation marks a special time in our history, and it is an opportunity for us to come together again to celebrate.”
As reported in the A&T, live footage of the coronation is expected to be shown on a large screen during a celebratory event on New Milton’s recreation ground.
Large screens are also set to be in place in Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole, broadcasting the national events throughout the weekend.
