Police hunt driver of overtaking car after near-head-on crash with patrol vehicle on Fawley Road in Hythe
POLICE are hunting the driver of an overtaking car which nearly crashed head-on with a patrol vehicle on a main road in Hythe.
Witnesses and dash cam footage are being sought following the near-miss on Fawley Road at around 10pm on Friday night, after which the vehicle involved sped off.
Described as a dark-coloured SUV-style car, it had tried to overtake another vehicle southbound, near the junction of Fleuret Close, nearly crashing head-on with a police car being driven in the opposite direction.
A spokesperson for the Hampshire force said: “The police car activated its emergency warning equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle involved, however it drove away at speed down Fawley Road towards the Hardley roundabout.”
Following a fruitless search of the area, officers want to hear from those who can help track down the car and its driver.
“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see what happened?,” the spokesperson continued.
“Perhaps you saw a dark coloured vehicle driving at speed in the area? Do you have dash cam footage that may assist our investigation?”
