Youths ride electric scooters through Co-op in Fordingbridge High Street

POLICE are hunting two youths who rode electric scooters through a Fordingbridge Co-op.

The incident happened in the High Street store on Friday 14th February, amid a rise in such vehicles illegally ridden on the town’s public roads and pavements.

A Hampshire force spokesperson said: “Two youths were told not to bring the e-scooters into the store and reportedly ignored staff requests to leave.

“They then rode off through the store. Enquiries are ongoing and parents will be spoken to.”

Sharing the images online, the Fordingbridge policing team said it had noticed more children illegally using the powered scooters in recent months, and several had been seized.

People took to the comments to vent their frustration at the incidents plaguing the town and other areas.

One wrote: “They need to be taken off the roads/pavements before someone gets seriously hurt.”

E-scooters can only be used on private land, and police have warned any seen being used illegally would be seized.

“If you buy your child an e-scooter, you are encouraging them to break the law and putting them at risk,” it said.

“Parents also run the risk of causing or permitting traffic offences with points on their own licence.”

This month, Hampshire police and crime commissioner Donna Jones empowered officers to destroy any e-scooter or e-motorcycle that is being used in crime as part of Operation Crush.
