Hythe and Dibden beat Fawley for local derby bragging rights
Southern Division Three: Hythe & Dibden CC 242-5 v Fawley 209 (Hythe & Dibden CC win by 33 runs)
HYTHE & Dibden took bragging rights in their local derby against Fawley with a 33-run home victory in Southern Division Three.
The hosts elected to bat at Jones Lane and cruised to an 81-run opening partnership on a bat-friendly pitch. Tom Gates was caught off Wayne Smith, one shy of his half-century for the first wicket.
Captain Tom Richards continued the assault and led his side with a dominating 79, which included 11 fours. Top-order batsmen Zac Millar (28) aided Richards while Craig Stow smashed three sixes in a knock of 34 as Hythe set an imposing 242-4 off 50 overs.
After losing both openers early, Fawley recovered with Jonathan Lush and Sufian Munir. The pair put on 122 runs for the third wicket before Lush was caught off Royan for a well-made 41.
Munir anchored the visitors' reply and made 103 off 93 balls with 11 fours and four mammoth sixes.
But Munir's magnificent knock was all in vain as they lost 5-30 to collapse to 209 all out in 46.2 overs - 33 runs short of Hythe's total. Andy Wakely spearheaded the Hythe bowling attack as he took 4-13 off a tight nine-over spell.
