Red Arrows, two processions and grand fireworks finale at 2023 Ringwood carnival
A Red Arrows flypast, classic cars, horse drawn vehicles, cheerleaders and fireworks were just a few of the highlights of Ringwood’s bumper carnival celebration on Saturday.
Hailed as one of the biggest carnival parades in Hampshire, the all-day spectacular featured an afternoon parade and an illuminated evening procession, followed by a grand firework finale.
Dressed as an array of colourful characters from cheeky Minions to sci-fi superheroes, Land Army Girls and stars of the stage and screen, the procession also featured steam vehicles, Samba drummers and cheerleading dancers.
On Friday afternoon it was announced that a coveted fly-past by the Red Arrows had been confirmed.
A committee spokesperson said: “For numerous years the carnival committee have officially applied for the mighty reds to fly over on carnival day, of which was formally confirmed to us two days ago.
“It is an absolute dream, honour and privilege that they can be here.”
As reported in the A&T, this year organisers choose 16-year-old James Gollop to be carnival Queen.
However, following online harassment, a decision was made to amend his role to that of the carnival ambassador.
He was joined by princesses Lucy Knight (9) and Mia Marcinek (11) in the parade.
This year the afternoon procession attracted a record number of entries as crowds lined the procession route through the town centre.
Spectators were wowed by BMX stunt riders, while families enjoyed a busy and exciting funfair with village green style stalls, live music across town, fire performers, appearances from a Bumblebee Transformer and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
A carnival committee spokesperson said: “Run by a group of passionate volunteers, and some dedicated helpers, we had fun, entertained the town, raised money for charity and had an eco-drink with our new festival cups.
“We want to thank everyone who makes this long-running event the success that it is. Here’s to Ringwood Carnival 2023, it will certainly be well remembered [and] see you all at carnival 2024.”
