Inquest opened into death of woman (89) in truck collision

A GRANDMOTHER who was killed in a collision with a delivery lorry in the centre of New Milton had suffered multiple injuries, an inquest heard.

Margaret Fraser (89), who lived in Waverley Road in the town, died after the incident involving a Travis Perkins crane-equipped DAF vehicle at the junction of Station Road and Ashley Road around 1pm on Monday 20th January.

A week later the cause of her death, established from a post-mortem examination, was read out during a hearing opened at Winchester Coroner’s Court.

The inquest was adjourned and a full hearing is due to take place at the same court on 1st July.

As reported in the A&T, the collision took place on the road just outside Boots on the corner of the traffic light-controlled junction, which is often busy at lunchtime with shoppers.

Hampshire police kept the road south of the crossroads closed off for about seven hours while a thorough investigation of the crash scene was carried out.

A 57-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident before being released under investigation.

This week, bunches of flowers still lay on the pavement near the spot where Mrs Fraser died; and a sign put up by police appealing for information still stands.
