Newlands Manor, Grade II listed former Milford home of Admiral Sir William Cornwallis, on the market for £3m
A MILFORD mansion which was formerly home to one of the Royal Navy’s most revered admirals is on the market with a £3m price tag.
Newlands Manor, the past home Admiral Sir William Cornwallis, a key figure in the Napoleonic Wars, is a Grade II listed home built by the naval leader as a testament to the grandeur of late 18th and early 19th century design.
Currently on the market with John D Wood and Co, the property spans three extensive floors and features an ornamental lake, outdoor swimming pool and woodland.
A spokesperson for John D Wood said: “The magnificent southerly elevation, adorned with exquisite Strawberry Hill Gothic architecture, is a sight to behold.
“The colour-washed render, fine buttresses culminating in pinnacles, and the castellated parapet beautifully create an awe-inspiring spectacle.”
Comprising 8,423 square feet of character accommodation, Admiral Cornwallis’ home has been fully restored and refurbished with accommodation spanning three extensive floors.
The spokesperson continued: “The bespoke specification throughout ensures a level of luxury and comfort that discerning buyers will appreciate. The principal rooms, strategically positioned to take full advantage of the fine vistas over the mature parkland setting, offer a serene retreat.”
The wider estate is surrounded by picturesque farmland, and can be accessed via a private, tree-lined driveway.
As commander-in-chief of the Channel Fleet in the early years of the 19th century, it was Admiral Cornwallis’ blockade of the French fleet at Brest and other ports that frustrated Napoleon’s plans to invade England.
As well as securing a reputation as one of the greatest admirals of the Royal Navy, Cornwallis was reportedly greatly respected by his fellow officers, loved by his men and revered by Nelson.
In June this year Milford was named as one of the most expensive locations in the UK to buy coastal home.
Analysis from property website RightMove revealed the latest trends by the coast including the cheapest and most expensive locations for both buyers and renters, plus the coastal buyer and renter search hotspots in the UK.
The results placed the village as the third most expensive seaside destination to buy a property, with an average sale price of £764,859.
Describing the area surrounding Newlands Manor as an “oasis of tranquility”, the John D Wood spokesperson continued: “The location of the estate offers the best of both worlds.
“While enjoying the utmost privacy and serenity, residents have convenient access to the renowned coastline, providing endless opportunities for seaside adventures.”
