International running win for Hordle golden girl Kathy Bailey
FOLLOWING her excellent performances at the British Championships and the World Masters Championships in Malaga, Hordle’s Kathy Bailey was selected to represent England at the Home Countries International Championships in Swansea.
Kathy showed her experience and strength to dominate her category against the best veteran runners from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.
With a storming run on a difficult and challenging course, Kathy won gold in the over-50 category and also led home England to a team gold.
Kathy’s coach Colin Goater told the A&T: “For many it might be time for a rest but knowing Kathy she will be racing again very soon!”
Last September Kathy, a former New Forest Runner who now competes for Winchester AC, cleaned up at the World Masters Track and Field Championships. She returned home with two individual golds, in the five mile cross country race and the 10k road race as well as a cross country team gold in the over 50 category at the event staged at Malaga, Spain.
Kathy will now be focusing her attention towards the 2019 European Championships in Venice.
After that she will start training for the next World Championships, to be held in
Toronto in 2020.
