Totton shoplifter Joseph Arnold jailed for ‘wilful and persistent failure’ to comply with probation
A TOTTON shoplifter who who failed to keep in touch with his probation officer was jailed for seven days.
Joseph Arnold (33), of no fixed abode, admitted breaching the supervision requirements imposed on him by Southampton Crown Court in November 2022.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates’ Court, he was sent to jail for the “wilful and persistent failure” to comply with probation, having been uncontactable since last August.
He also admitted three counts of theft from a shop, which involved him stealing steak, alcohol and an energy drink from Asda and Morrisons Daily in the town between September and November last year.
For these crimes he was ordered to pay compensation of £161.30 and fined £200.
He was fined a further £120 after admitting assault, which took place at Tesco Express in Calmore on 11th September, and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the victim.
On the same day he damaged items of food valued at £15 belonging to the store.
He admitted one count of criminal damage and was ordered to pay £15 compensation.
