18-week jail term for Totton man Shane Wright’s string of thefts during suspended sentence

Stealing hundreds of pounds of goods and fuel in a string of offences while on a suspended sentence landed a Totton man with 18 weeks in jail.

Shane Wright (21), of Brunswick Place, admitted committing seven thefts in the town between June 2023 and January this year.

Southampton magistrates heard two were committed with the same accomplice at the Morrisons petrol station store. Several packets of meat worth £74.20 were taken in one incident, and £27.13 of food in the other.

Wright targeted the Morrisons supermarket twice, stealing items of an unknown value on one occasion and £40 of goods on the other.

Another two thefts took place at the town’s Morrisons Daily convenience store, with £125 of goods stolen the first time and another £54 of goods the second time.

Finally, Wright made off without paying for £87.23 of diesel at the Morrisons garage.

The offences came during a six-week jail term suspended for six months for taking a vehicle without permission, which was involved in a crash.

Having admitted the breach, Wright was handed the 18-week jail term.

The Bench cited the nature and seriousness of the offences, and his prolific behaviour of reoffending.
