Jobs at risk at Lymington engineering firm
JOBS could be lost at Lymington Precision Engineers, which employs nearly 200 people, as the coronavirus crisis continues to bite local businesses.
Bosses at LPE are currently in discussions with staff, a spokesman for parent company Senior PLC confirmed to the A&T.
“Covid-19 is causing significant disruptions to all businesses, with the oil and gas markets badly affected,” he said.
“We are taking actions to manage our capacity to meet end-customer demand and are currently in discussion with our LPE employees about how this can be managed.”
Around 190 people are employed at the firm’s Marsh Lane site, and a source confirmed to the A&T that a consultation was under way which could lead to roles being lost. They stressed the overall site would remain operational.
LPE operates within the Flexonics division of Senior PLC, which is based in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.
The Lymington firm makes precision-machined components, fabrications, assemblies and kit sets for industries including oil and gas, telecommunications, aerospace and defence, nuclear and marine.
