Letter: How can councillors ride roughshod over voters in Brockenhurst?
Last week (A&T 28th Mar) you gave a full report on Brockenhurst’s high street’s roadworks ‘bombshell’.
From Easter onwards Brockenhurst’s Brookley Road starts to thrive with visitors throughout the summer months.
It is the most important time of the year for our busy local shopkeepers. So what do Hampshire County Council think they are doing using this specific time to do roadworks and build a raised area for ‘community events’ opposite Tesco?
Nobody here wants it. It will be of no use and a complete waste of money.
Surely they can plan roadworks in the off season? Also with both car parks closed for a while where on earth will people park as there is no other suitable parking area. Elderly folk cannot carry their bags home and visitors will just go elsewhere.
Our Parish council and all the shopkeepers have strongly protested. The county council completely ignores their very valid reasons and intends to proceed. Do any of them live anywhere near here or have any idea of the complete disruption they will cause at the very worst time of the year as well as causing severe financial problems to our shops?
How can these faceless councillors ride roughshod over such very positive and valid protests! Can they not see sense and postpone any plans until after the summer.
