Letters: Can you help me find my stolen military medals?
SIR - I wonder if there is a chance through your newspaper to find two medals.
Some years ago we were unfortunate by being burgled. The thief took anything that was shiny, regardless of value.
Among these were two medals presented to me on my passing out parade in 1963.
These are the size of an old sixpence and are made from an alloy. They have ribbons of the Royal Engineers and are inscribed, one with name, army and ‘Best recruit 22 intake,’ and the second medal carries the same basic engraving plus ‘Best recruit driver 22 intake’.
I have tried to obtain replacements from my old regiment and from various army organisations but am told these were only made on demand from the CO of the regiment.
So my plea is can any of your readers help me please?
I should add that the thief was a local man and was caught a short time after the burglary.
