Letters: I'm backing Boris Johnson who has the courage of President Trump

SIR - Warren Breach wonders why MPs are backing Boris Johnson in the Tory leadership campaign.

Two successful terms as Mayor of London and leading the referendum Leave campaign to victory against the onslaught of (fake) Project Fear both from here and abroad is clearly considered enough for him to be regarded as a winner.

After the disasters of the local elections and the Euro elections the Tories desperately need someone with the charisma of Mr Johnson and with his gift for oratory to hold off any challenge from the equally gifted leader of the Brexit Party.

Indeed the latter is already dictating the policies of the former; eg an immigration points system is an old UKIP policy. Labour is surely too much at war with itself to be considered a serious threat.

For Mr Breach to disparage Mr Johnson by calling him a "comedian" exaggerates his welcome sense of humour. And after hearing Mr Johnson at the Bournemouth hustings, far from being "muddle-headed" he presented himself as someone with very clear goals and not just on Brexit.

Mr Johnson has my vote because I believe he has the same courage as President Trump. (The nuclear button argument is for dictators and the birds.)

And for the first time in decades we will have a prime minister with advisers and a cabinet which is in tune with the majority of the electorate. His opponent, Jeremy Hunt, is too nice and just does not match up.
