Letters: Lymington Centre car park must not be sold
SIR – I was surprised to read that Cllr Anna Rostand, as chairman of Lymington Community Association, is considering selling off the centre’s car park.
As a New Forest district councillor, she has at her fingertips all the information from the many car parking surveys which have been carried out for Lymington and will know that the town is operating at full parking capacity.
With 5,000 people visiting the Lymington Centre each week, a large function hall, and a cinema The Malt, where will the members and visitors park? Indeed without adequate car parking facilities an association of this magnitude should not be allowed to operate.
What is the point of upgrading and modernising if people are unable to visit? Use the assets you have, Lymington Association, and make them profitable.
Convert your low lying car park to a three-deck multi-storey with apartments above. Ask for more time to match fund or give back the town council’s £900,000 and go it alone with other grants.
A successful community enterprise does not have to be completely upgraded and modernised tomorrow!
