Lines blocked between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth after person killed by train

THE railway line between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth was blocked after a person was killed by a train this morning.

Emergency services responded to the incident, which took place around 6.30am at Pokesdown station, and all trains on the route were cancelled while they dealt with it.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Pokesdown station at 6.30am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

South Western Railway said its response teams were working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.

“In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area," said a spokesperson.

Commuters faced heavy delays as SWR worked to arrange alternative transport to enable them to complete their journeys.

The spokesperson added: “We are very sorry for the delay to customer journeys this morning. All lines are currently blocked between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth stations as emergency services deal with an incident.”

Train passengers are advised to speak to a member of staff or use a station help point for advice on onward travel.

The lines were reopened shortly before 9am, but the rail company warned that trains travelling between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth may still be cancelled, delayed by up to an hour or revised. The disruption is expected to continue until midday.
