Local ties represented in ECB's brand-new Hundred format

BASHLEY Rydal CC, Totton & Eling and Parley will all be represented by players in the new Hundred competition alongside international superstars of the game after they were selected in Saturday’s draft.

Ryan Higgins, who played for Bashley from 2012-2013 and now plays county cricket for Gloucestershire, was selected in the sixth round by the Welsh Fire. He will be joined by former Parley seamer David Payne who was also selected by the Fire in the sixth round.

Higgins and Payne will join England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, and Australia stars Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc while ex-Totton & Eling player Katie George will join the women’s side.

Somerset CC’s Waller will play for the Southampton-based Southern Brave in the competition after being picked in the seventh round.

The leg-spinner, who played for Bashley from 2004-2009, will line up with England’s pace-bowling sensation Jofra Archer and Australia opening batsman David Warner.

The Hundred is a new quickfire 100-ball innings competition that will debut in England next summer. Bowlers will deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls which varies from the traditional six-ball over in a standard cricket format.

Each bowler will be able to deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game and matches will have a time limit of two-and-a-half hours.
