Buckland Granaries in Lymington shorlisted in Solent Quality Place Awards 2022

A LYMINGTON housing development is in the running for a People’s Choice Award which will go to the entry voted most popular by the public.

Buckland Granaries in Lymington is a collection of homes close to the historic Buckland Rings, and has been shortlisted for the prize in the Solent Quality Place Awards 2022.

It features 12 custom-designed family properties in a courtyard on what was formerly an agricultural farmyard.

The original character of the location has been retained and now forms a focal point for the housing estate.

The development was built by Hartdene Homes and designed by BrightSpace architects.

The scheme made it onto the seven-strong shortlist from about 20 entries.

Ancient monuments, university building expansions, residential suburbs and public spaces were among the projects chosen as contenders.

Buckland Granaries’ rivals for the silverware are: Market Place, Romsey; the West Downs Centre, Winchester; North Stoneham Park, Eastleigh; the Centenary Building, Southampton; Maggie’s Centre, Southampton; and God’s House Tower, Southampton.

The sixth edition of the Solent Quality Place Awards seeks to highlight “place-making excellence”, recognising developments that contribute to improving the economic, social, cultural and environmental life of communities within the Solent region.

It also offers the Quality Place Judges Award, which is the judges’ overall winner of the most outstanding scheme of all the 2022 entries.

The competition is run by the Partnership for South Hampshire, made up of local authorities from across the area.

Partnership chair Cllr Sean Woodward said: “Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the Solent area are wonderful places to live, and this category of the Solent Quality Award is all about letting the people who live and work in these places and spaces choose the best design and place which most inspires them.”

To vote visit solentqualityplaceawards.org.uk by 26th September.

Winners will be announced in October.
