Lymington get back to winning ways with victory over Alton

Southern Premier Division: Lymington CC 268-8 v Alton CC 168 (Lymington CC win by 93 runs)

LYMINGTON CC got back to winning ways following a 93-run home victory over Alton.

On a hot, sunny afternoon at the Sports Ground, Lymington captain Matt Metcalfe won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Ben Rogers (28) and Terry Crabb put on 43 by the fifth over having hit seven boundaries.

New Zealander Terry Crabb (54) was looking in fine form having hit seven boundaries and one six but was run out in the 15th over with the score on 100. Ryan Scott (15) was out caught with Dominic Hand (17) suffering the same fate.

However, Gareth Schreuder (62) was joined by Harry Fisher (51) who had scored a century for Dorset against Wales this week. They put on 93 before Schreuder tried to play a reverse sweep and was out LBW at the hands of Julian Ballinger.

A late flurry of runs saw Lymington reach 268-8 after 50 overs.

In reply, the Alton openers were parted when Matt Metcalfe, who had taken a wicket with his first ball four times already this season, had Ryan Cover (0) LBW with his second ball. Josh Ryan (1-26) picked up a wicket in his second over but was then replaced by Ryan Scott (2-28).

Youngsters Dan Cox (1-50) and Ben Attrill (4-48) made an excellent return to the side after missing last week's derby against Bashley. Alton were struggling, and Metcalfe (1-16) ensured the visitors were all out, 93 runs short of their target.

Lymington picked up the maximum 22 points and remain in fourth place with one match left.

With a top half finish all but assured, Lymington host bottom-of-the-table Basingstoke and North Hants in their final league game of the season.
