Lymington Harbour safety among best in UK
SAFETY management systems at Lymington Harbour are among the very best in the UK according to the results of a recent audit.
The Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) sets out a national standard, with the aim of enhancing safety for everyone who uses or works in the UK port marine environment.
In line with the recommendations of the code, Lymington Harbour Commissioners recently appointed an external consultant, Montgomery Smedley, from ABPmer to provide independent oversight of the performance of the harbour safety management system.
Lymington Harbour Master Ryan Willegers said: “Mr Smedley presented his findings to the board of commissioners, which concluded that Lymington Harbour Commissioners safety management system was fully compliant with the code and demonstrated six areas of best practice, including the on boarding process for new commissioners, risk assessment, and delivery of its environmental duty.
“In response to a question from Commissioner Chris Lisher, who asked how Lymington Harbour rated in comparison with other harbours, Mr Smedley indicated Lymington’s safety management system and its implementation was among the very best.”
