Lymington and Pennington Town Council hail Christmas lights switch-on a success
Lymington’s High Street sparkled with festive magic as hundreds gathered for the town’s big Christmas lights switch-on.
Revellers got into the yuletide spirit as the community came together on Friday evening for an evening of lights, music and seasonal cheer.
The festivities began with live performances from local choirs and bands, setting a heartwarming tone as carols and holiday classics filled the air.
Families enjoyed a variety of attractions, including festive market stalls offering seasonal treats, children's activities and a grotto where youngsters could put in their gift requests to Santa.
The highlight of the evening came as the clock struck 5.45pm, when town mayor Jack Davies officially switched on the lights, drawing cheers and applause from the crowds.
"This event is a true celebration of our community spirit and the magic of Christmas," Jack said.
“It’s wonderful to see so many families and friends coming together to share in this special moment and kick off the festive season in style."
Local shops and businesses joined in the celebrations, keeping their doors open late and offering samples of their goods to entice shoppers.
The event was organised by Lymington and Pennington Town Council with support from local sponsors and volunteers, who the authority said “worked tirelessly” to make it a “resounding success”.
The town council provided one of the fairground rides, which raised £851 for the mayor’s chosen charity Olivia Inspires, which helps people aged 11 to 18 reach their potential despite financial hardships.
A town council spokesperson said: “As the lights continue to shine brightly throughout the holiday season, residents and visitors alike are invited to soak up the festive ambiance of Lymington, explore the town's shops, and enjoy the various events scheduled in the lead-up to Christmas.”
