Garon Jewell and Draven Jewell appear in Southampton Magistrates’ Court charged with murdering Pennington dad Max Maguire
TWO men have appeared in court accused of murdering Pennington dad Max Maguire who was fatally stabbed near the Royal British Legion in Lymington.
Garon Jewell (18), of Flushards, Lymington, and Draven Jewell (20), of no fixed abode, both stand accused of murder, attempted murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
Neither defendant entered a plea to the three charges during a two-minute hearing at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday).
It is said they killed dad-of-one Max outside the Royal British Legion on Lymington High Street between 22nd and 25th October.
They are also accused of the attempted murder of Luke Gray and inflicting grievous bodily harm on Georgia Hole – known as Georgina Wort.
The Bench remanded the pair, who were wearing grey tracksuit tops, in custody.
They will appear again at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow morning for another preliminary hearing.
As reported in the A&T, Max and two friends were found with stab wounds after police were called to the Legion around midnight on Friday.
Despite efforts to save him, local fisherman Max was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is understood Luke (23), who suffered serious injuries, is currently in hospital but stable, while Georgina (also 23) suffered a serious wound to her chest but is at home recovering.
Four people were arrested over the incident, including a 29-year-old and 14-year-old boy from Lymington.
Hampshire police said the 29-year-old has been released without charge and no further action will be taken against him.
The teen, the force added, has been bailed while enquiries continue.
Meanwhile, mayor of Lymington Cllr James Hoare has reassured residents of the town's safety following the incident.
“I was deeply saddened by the events in Lymington High Street on Friday night,” he told the A&T.
“My thoughts are with the friends and family of the person who died and those who were injured in this terrible crime. I would like to thank the emergency services for their response and the work they are continuing to do.
“Thankfully, a serious crime of this nature is extremely rare in Lymington. I understand the police are not seeking anybody else in connection with this tragic incident
“I would like to reassure the residents and visitors to Lymington that I am confident our town is a safe place that we love and enjoy.”
The fatal incident came one night after a pub-goer at The Saltern pub in the town was apparently threatened by a 60-year-old man, who was arrested, with a blade.
