Lymington revved up for invasion by fundraising fleet of Ferraris

THE streets of Lymington will roar to the sound of a fleet of Ferraris for the annual Italia Festival on Sunday 7th July.

A convoy of 50 sports cars will parade around the town before parking up in the high street where visitors can get a closer look.

The Italian theme will continue with a range of stalls offering traditional Italian street fare including pizzas, plus a hog roast, as well as Italian clothes, handbags, model cars and artisan products.

At 2pm, Lymington’s 100-strong Rock Choir will perform a medley of songs in the centre of the high street.

The event, run by Lymington and Pennington Town Council, is in aid of the Blackfield-based Honeypot Children’s Charity for young carers and vulnerable kids.

To raise funds, a raffle of 14 prizes including a ride in a Ferrari and/or Aston Martin will be match-funded up to £1,000 by Barclays bank.

Town mayor Cllr Anne Corbridge said: “We have some really special raffle prizes to give away thanks to local businesses, and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the high street.”

The day will begin at 10am when the Wessex Ferrari Owners’ Club meets at Lymington Yacht Haven.

At around midday they will travel in convoy to Pennington Cross, Stanford Hill, Southampton Road, Avenue Road and Gosport Street, before entering the High Street.

Viv Carter, Honeypot’s regional community fundraising officer, said: “We are so grateful to Lymington and Pennington Town Council for choosing us as the Lymington Italia Festival charity this year because we rely on donations in order to continue our much-needed service.”

Honeypot offers respite breaks and outreach support to more than 1,000 young carers and vulnerable children aged 5-13.

There are 33 Honeypot children currently living in the Lymington and Pennington area.
