Lymington Rowing Club juniors triumph at national indoor championships
IT was a day to remember for the Lymington Amateur Rowing Club (LARC) juniors at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships after bringing home a gold and two bronze medals.
Ten LARC rowers competed in the event last month, which involved more than 3,000 rowing students from across the country.
Starting on a high note, the first events of the day, the U18 and U17 ladies, saw an impressive row from LARC member, Lena Mills, hold off the competition with an amazing performance in the 2km race to win a gold medal.
Anna Jackson-Melin produced a great performance coming fifth out of 10 rowers in her category, and Ellie Potter put in an excellent effort to come eighth out of 20 in her age category.
The next races saw the Year 9 rowers compete with impressive results. Pippa Homewood put in a strong performance to take the bronze medal in the U14 girls’ category against 178 competitors.
Angus Wagstaff also put in an impressive effort to win a bronze medal in the U14 boys’ category which had 220 rowers. Callan Wallis and JC Alphin finished 46th and 76th in the event.
The afternoon saw the Year 10 and 11 rowers take to the floor. The Year 10s pulled off some great results against fierce competition.
In the U15 girls’ race, Eleanor Williams finished a very respectable 12th out of 116.
Seb Mills achieved an impressive sixth-place finish out of 96 boys in the U15 category.
The Year 11 boys wrapped up proceedings. In the closing heat, Jack Manns finished 19th out of 62 entries.
It was a great outing for the junior members with some personal bests, smiles and good, strong team spirit shining through. A spokesperson for the club thanked LARC coach Hugo Mills and Kirsten Melin for preparing the rowers and managing the logistics of the day.
