Lymington’s growing junior fun runs drew 500-plus to start line

Over 500 children participated in the children’s fun runs at the Lymington RNLI 10K Run which has raised over £265,000 for RNLI Lymington lifeboat services in the 18 years of the event.

This was the eighth annual fun run which has grown from a small trial group to 513 children running in this year’s event.

The main 10k run also boasted a record number of 1011 finishers from 1167 entrants. There were various courses set up over the Ineos sponsored children’s run including a two-kilometre course for the 12 to 15-year-olds down to a 600-metre course for the under-5s to run with family members which was a highlight on the day.

The 12-15 years boys’ race was won by Priestlands student Matthew Vickery (pictured above) while Skye Johnson won the 12-15 girls’ race.

The organisers arranged a Schools Shield to help promote the sport amongst older juniors. The shield was shared by Priestlands and Walhampton who had equally excellent performances and support.

Walhampton brought a minibus filled with boarding students to be part of the community festival. This was made possible by teacher Kate Cullum who had recently completed the London Marathon.

Organiser Richard Clarke from the event thanked all the marshals, administration and everyone else who helped as they made this day possible with their hard work and to all their sponsors for their continued support over the years.
