Hampshire County Council contingency weekend closures for A35 Redbridge Causeway no longer needed
A MAJOR route into the Forest will not close overnight this weekend, Hampshire County Council has confirmed, as essential works near completion.
As reported in the A&T, the Redbridge causeway, which carries A35 traffic from Southampton to the Waterside, was partially shut on two weekends earlier this month for resurfacing. This was in addition to four weekday overnight closures.
The council had also identified contingency closures from Saturday 31st August until Monday 2nd September, in case of poor weather affecting the schedule of work.
However, it has confirmed to the A&T that the road will remain open, with no further weekend closures currently planned.
The next closures will be overnight, from 8pm to 6am, between Monday 2nd September and Friday 6th September.
Closures will also take place overnight between Monday 9th September and Wednesday 11th September during the same times.
A HCC spokesperson said: “The westbound A35 will be completely closed between Redbridge roundabout and Rushington roundabout.
“Westbound traffic will need to follow the fully signed diversions which will be in place for both motorway and non-motorway users.”
The south footway of the westbound A35 will also need to be closed during these periods, the council say, for safety reasons, however, a signed diversion for pedestrians, non-mounted cyclists, and other users will be in place via the north footway.
