Transition Lymington hosting repair cafe at community centre

BRING your broken and busted items to a repair cafe being held in Lymington this weekend.

Transition Lymington is hosting the ‘make do and mend’ session at Lymington Community Centre on Saturday 19th October from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

People are invited to bring along broken items including clothes, phones, electrical goods and bikes for repair for a donation of £3 per item.

Materials will also be on hand for people to have a go at fixing items themselves at no charge, but with donations welcomed.

Staff from Figgures Cycles will also be offering free bike safety checks and homemade cakes, teas and coffees will be on sale.

A Transition Lymington spokesperson said: “What do you do with a faulty toaster, a bike when the brakes are bust, or trousers with a tear?

“Bin it? No way. By promoting repairs, Transition Lymington wants to help reduce mountains of waste. This is absolutely necessary.”

Grace Brennan from the group added: “We throw away so much stuff in the UK – even things which practically have nothing wrong with them, and which could easily be used again after a simple repair.

“Unfortunately, many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired. Repair cafe wants to change all that. Repairs can save money and resources, and can help minimise carbon emissions.

“By running a repair cafe people can discover that repairing things can be fun and often quite easy.”
