Man arrested after armed alert in Fawley
ARMED police swooped on a Fawley street amid reports a man had been spotted carrying a handgun.
The alarm was raised shortly before 2pm last Friday, and on arrival at the scene in the Heather Road area, officers found the suspect actually had an air weapon.
Arrested by the officers, the 32-year-old local man was given a conditional caution for possessing an air weapon in a public place. A Hampshire police spokesperson added he surrendered the weapon for destruction.
A post about the incident on the Waterside Police Twitter account thanked residents for their help in tracking down the man involved.
“Thanks to community for reporting a male in street with air weapon in Fawley Friday,” the tweet said.
“Arrested by Hampshire armed police with no aggravating factors, male given conditional caution and weapon seized for destruction.”
