Man found dead at New Forest beauty spot

PARAMEDICS and police rushed to Setley Pond in the New Forest after a man was found dead yesterday (Monday).

A member of the public reportedly discovered the body of a man in his 60s hanging in woodland at the beauty spot, off Jealous Lane in Battramsley near Lymington.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance was dispatched to the scene at Setley Pond around 3.45pm, along with multiple police vehicles.

Fire crews were also called out but were soon stood down after one from Brockenhurst arrived.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Setley Pond after the body of a man was discovered.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

Witnesses took to social media to express their sadness about the incident and describe the emergency services activity at the scene.

One poster on a local Facebook page said: “I saw two fire engines and two police cars there. Must be serious.”

Another wrote: “So sad for all involved.”
