Fawley man who kicked and spat at officers jailed for 24 weeks
ASSAULTS on police will “never be tolerated”, a New Forest chief warned, after a Fawley man was jailed for kicking and spitting at three officers.
Daniel Marczylo (36), of Hedley Close, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting an emergency worker in the execution of their duty following an incident in the town on 28th May.
Having also pleaded guilty to committing a public order offence on the same date, Marczylo was sent down for 24 weeks at Southampton Magistrates’ Court last Monday.
The Bench had heard how officers responded to a reported assault and arrested the defendant before transporting him to custody.
He spat at and kicked them during the arrest and transfer to cell, but they suffered no lasting injuries.
As well as the prison sentence, Marczylo was ordered to pay £300 compensation to the officers.
The outcome was welcomed by New Forest district commander Ch. Insp. Nick Marsden.
“Attacking one of our police officers or police community support officers in the execution of their duties, whether it be verbally or physically, will never be tolerated,” he said afterwards.
“Our officers are trying to do a job in protecting the communities they serve and keeping people safe in the process.
“This behaviour is appalling and completely unacceptable.”
Calling one assault “one too many”, Mr Marsden highlighted the major long-term impact such offences have on an officer’s colleagues, family and the community.
He added: “Assaults, like the ones in this case, will never be seen as ‘just part of the job’ and we will do everything we can to deal with these offences and offenders quickly and robustly.”
