Man who threatened trader handed pre-sentence restraining order and curfew
A MAN who threatened the owner of a New Milton tanning salon has been given a restraining order and night-time curfew until he appears before Southampton magistrates for sentencing next week.
David Channell (52), of Ramsey Court, Drake Close, was convicted of harassing and using threatening behaviour towards New Miltan owner Annette Hunter.
In last week’s A&T Ms Hunter called for Channell to be banned from the town saying he had repeatedly ignored a previous restraining order imposed on him.
She said she feared what he would do in the future after he was found guilty in his absence of the charges involving her.
Magistrates were told how he had continuously turned up outside Ms Hunter’s salon, in Station Road, acting abusively towards her and customers.
On 6th December last year he had screamed and swore at her and customers before throwing a pair of scissors at Ms Hunter.
He also abused a policeman who arrested him at the scene – putting two fingers up at a CCTV camera before he was handcuffed.
After he failed to appear at court for the trial a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Channell was brought before the court last Friday where he was given the restraining order banning him from contacting or approaching Ms Hunter, and the 7pm to 6am curfew.
He will appear on Friday 20th September for sentencing for the charges involving Ms Hunter.
