Queues for opening of new Range Superstore featuring a Garden Centre by Homebase in Christchurch
DOZENS of shoppers queued up to be among the first to visit the new Range Superstore in Christchurch.
Town mayor Paul Hilliard cut the ribbon at the shop, which includes a ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’, last Friday.
As reported by the A&T, CDS Superstores, the parent company of The Range and Wilko, bought out the Homebase brand in November in an eleventh-hour rescue deal.
The move left the future uncertain for some 2,000 Homebase staff working at 49 locations nationwide, including at the former Homebase store in Christchurch.
Following the ribbon-cutting at the new Range, the first customer through the door was given a £150 shopping voucher.
The next 50 shoppers in the queue were given goodie bags filled with more than 20 of the retailer’s most popular products.
Brand representatives from suppliers including Westland, Burts, Calor Gas and Husqvarna were also on hand to offer shoppers advice, demonstrations, giveaways and samples.
CDS Superstores’ chief executive Alex Simpkin said: “We’re thrilled to open our doors in Christchurch… and introduce our customers to the new Range Superstore experience.
“The exciting addition of the ‘Garden Centre by Homebase’ to this format continues to represent our ongoing commitment to providing everything from homeware to outdoor living under one roof.
“We’re committed to retaining Homebase’s heritage while introducing the broader scope of products that our customers expect from The Range. The team has worked incredibly hard to get these stores up and running for our existing and new visitors to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming shoppers from across the region to explore all that we have to offer.”
The new Range Superstore offers customers a free click and collect service.
