Milford BMX youngster Finley Thomas aims for the top
PINT-sized BMX rider Finley Thomas has ranked number one in the southern region and second in the UK for his age group after taking the top spot in a recent competition.
Following a successful season, six-year-old Finley from Milford on Sea recently competed in the South Championships at Peckham BMX Track, where he won the final, making him number one in the south region.
The Gosport BMX Club member, trained by British and national champion Brynley Savage, finished the British Cycling National Series as number two in the country for his six and under age group.
It was his first complete series, which also saw him take his first national win at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester in September.
Finley’s mum Samantha said: “He is a keen rider who rockets out the gate and trains hard through all weathers.
“Finley found his love for bikes at 13 months when he took his first balance bike to bed and never let go. He swiftly moved on to a pedal bike at the age of two and a half.”
She continued: “Finley has a love for bikes on and off the track and wants to follow his inspiration from Brynley Savage and his idol Bethany Shriever, the Olympic gold medallist.”
Finley hopes to compete in the Olympics one day and qualify to represent Great Britain in the World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, in 2026.
The youngster has won the Bournemouth BMX Club Summer Series, The Gosport BMX Club Summer Series, and the South of England Championships this year.
He hopes to find sponsorship from a local company to help him progress his BMX journey.
