Milford photographer’s Bournemouth Air Festival shot wins award

THIS stunning image captured by Milford photographer Graham Wiffen, was the winner of the 2023 SS Shieldhall photography competition.

Captured during the Bournemouth Air Festival in early September, Graham posted the photo online and received a number of comments suggesting he should enter the annual photography contest.

Graham said: “I did a bit of research on the competition and decided I might as well give it a go. It wasn’t until a couple of months later that I heard my photo had won.”

Steamship Shieldhall is thought to be the largest working steam ship in northern Europe, often sailing out of Southampton. Run entirely by volunteers, the ship is a unique time capsule providing a working example of steamship machinery both above and below deck, typical of the cargo and passenger ships that plied the oceans of the world from the 1870s until the mid-1960s, by which time they were all but extinct.

Graham won a £100 voucher for Shieldhall credit which he can use on any of the ship’s 2024 sailings.
