Milford’s Millennium Clock, made by Smiths of Derby, renovated and repaired after community drive
MILFORD‘S Millennium Clock has been renovated and repaired after a community fundraising campaign secured almost half of the £5,000 cost.
The clock, made by Smiths of Derby, sits above a shop in Keyhaven Road, which is currently occupied by the Lymington Cat & Kitten Rescue.
It was originally installed on the eaves of the building, but after a 2013 fundraising campaign, £3,000 was raised to relocate it to a more visible setting.
However, the clock stopped working several months ago and the cost of repair work was estimated at around £5,000. Parish councillors agreed to ask the community to help and, following a campaign, £2,400 was raised towards the initiative.
The parish council will fund the remainder.
Work to repair the clock has now been completed but in order to maintain it in working order, Smiths of Derby will return to service it every two years.
