More than 180 confirmed local coronavirus deaths – interactive map to check your area
THERE have been more than 180 coronavirus deaths in total across the New Forest and BCP Council areas, official figures show.
Data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) recorded 72 casualties in the New Forest this year – up by more than 50% from the 46 set out in equivalent numbers a week ago.
Thirty-nine of the district’s Covid-19 deaths were in hospital. Care homes accounted for 31, which is up by a third from the running total of 20 last week.
There were 111 deaths in the BCP area which covers Christchurch, as well as Bournemouth and Poole. Of those, 59 deaths were in hospital and 37 in care homes.
The new figures are based on deaths up until 24th April that were registered to 2nd May.
On Wednesday the latest government statistics revealed 30,076 people in total have died in the UK due to the pandemic.
Using older figures, the ONS last week also revealed which parts of the New Forest and Christchurch have had the most fatalities due to Covid-19.
These are based on analysis of the 20,283 deaths in England and Wales between March 1st and April 17th that were registered by April 18th and where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate as the underlying cause of death or a contributory factor.
By district council wards, Ashurst and Cadnam has had the most with eight, the second highest being five in Hythe, then four in Ringwood South and three in Lymington Town and Boldre.
There have been two in Brockenhurst and Sway, as well as two each in Holbury South, Langdown and Dibden Purlieu, and Totton Calmore.
Some areas have had one coronavirus fatality: Barton, Hordle and Bashley, Lymington North and West, Lyndhurst and Minstead, New Milton East and New Milton West, Ringwood North and Ibsley, and one each in West Totton, Totton Town and Totton Rushington.
In Christchurch there has been two in Somerford, and one in Mudeford and Christchurch Town.
