More thunderstorms forecast in yellow alert for New Forest and Christchurch

MORE thunderstorms are forecast for the New Forest and Christchurch as much of England prepares for the threat of rough weather.

The Met Office said some areas could be hit from tomorrow (Tuesday) by 24 hours of intermittent torrential rain, hail and lightning, with potential travel disruption and flooding.

The yellow warning – the lowest level – was issued for about 6pm tomorrow to around 9pm on Wednesday covering east and central England, including Hampshire and Dorset.

The predicted thunderstorms follow a weather alert for similar conditions last Wednesday as the summer struggles to deliver the sun.

The Met Office said parts of southern England would be affected first with 15-30mm of rain expected and up to 50mm in a few locations. After a drier interlude, further storms may develop on Wednesday.

The Met Office said: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”
