A MOTORCYCLIST was left fighting for his life following a collision with a car on the road between Bashley and Holmsley.

Paramedic teams, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance, responded to the incident involving the 20-year-old male rider and a blue Volkswagen Touran.

It took place on the B3058 Holmsley Road in Wootton, a short distance from the Rising Sun pub, near New Milton, around 9.15am today (Tuesday).

Having suffered multiple injuries, the casualty was taken by road ambulance to the major trauma centre at Southampton General Hospital.

His condition was described as life-threatening by a South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson.

Police closed the stretch of road between Brownhill Road and Bashley while emergency crews worked at the scene and an investigation was launched.

After several hours it was later opened again to traffic.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Witnesses and anyone with information about the collision should contact the Totton roads policing unit on 101.
