New Forest Mummers raise £2,390 for Alzheimer’s Research UK

A GROUP of wandering Thespians have raised £2,390 for Alzheimer’s Research UK after performing festive plays across the Forest.

During December, the New Forest Mummers showed off the East Boldre Mummers Play 42 times at 38 pubs and hotels, in their first touring production since 2019.

This year the performers decided to raise money in memory of longstanding former member Pete Dyer who lost his battle with dementia in May 2022.

Mummer member Keith Petty said the group was founded 55 years ago and were always keen to welcome new people.

He added: “We love keeping this medieval tradition alive in the New Forest.

“The reaction we get is always so welcoming and we must say a huge thank you to all the landlords across the New Forest who allowed us to perform and their very generous patrons who helped us raise this fantastic amount.”
