Music, dancing and cars at Lions Club of New Milton & District’s Town Show at the rec

SONG, dance, fun activities, continental cuisine and vintage motors are the order of the day on New Milton’s rec this weekend.

The Lions Club of New Milton & District’s Town Show takes place from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, the event promising “plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy”.

The centrepiece classic car display on the green throughout the day will include a 1925 Bull Nose Morris with dickey seat, owned by local resident Rob Dean.

This will join scores of vehicles from the Three Counties Vintage & Classic Car Club, and 20 other locals.

Entertainment from the performance pavilion will include rock punk group Ukerjax, singer and entertainer Lea Martin, and Musk (Milton Ukulele Strummers Klub).

There will also be Zumba, and covers band Be More Dog! will round off the day.

The French Market, usually only seen in New Milton at its annual Christmas festival, will be present with a large on-site bakery.

It will sell cheeses, meats and sausages, as well as bags, scarves and hats, French clothing and footwear; and arts, crafts, toys, games and music.

There will also be more than 30 community and commercial stalls.

Children will be kept entertained with a host of rides and other amusements, along with the RNLI stall’s prize games; and the Lions’ soft toy tombola and prize crossbow stall.

Lions committee chair Chris Clarke said: “All of our fingers are crossed that we will be blessed with some good weather, for our biggest event of the year on the rec.”

The club – now also covering Milford, Lymington and Brockenhurst – is looking to expand its membership and fundraising events. A duck race could debut next summer.

New president Alan Watson said: “I ask you please to make a donation in our buckets, so that we can continue our welfare activities, which last year supported over 40 groups and individuals.”
