Neighbours tell of horror at deaths of mum and daughter in Milford home on Shorefield Road

SHOCKED neighbours of a 42-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter who were found dead at a house in Milford have described their “horror” at the tragedy.

A neighbour who lives in Shorefield Road close to the home – called Twin Oaks – said the family were from Berkshire.

She told the A&T: “They didn’t live there. They had bought it to do it up and were coming and going from Maidenhead.

“We introduced ourselves when they first got the house and they seemed very nice. But we had hardly seen them since.

“They seemed very private people. When we heard what had happened it was just horrifying, so sad.”

The bodies of the mum and daughter were said to have been found by another daughter on 29th December.

Police and ambulance rushed to the scene but were unable to save the pair.

Hampshire Constabulary said the case was being treated as "unexplained but not suspicious".

The private property, which was reportedly sold for £620,000 in January this year, is opposite Shorefields Holiday Park, but entirely separate from the business.

It appears in a dilapidated condition and there is evidence of renovations being carried out.

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “I was absolutely horrified when I heard what had happened.

“This is such a quiet place. I did not know them – I don’t think hardly anyone in the road did.

“It is such a shocking thing to have happened.”

Cllr Matthew Goode, chair of Milford Parish Council, said residents had been upset by the deaths.

He added: “I think the whole community of Milford has been shocked by the very tragic news surrounding the deaths of a teenage girl and woman over the Christmas period.

"Our thoughts are with their friends and family at this very difficult time.”

Parish clerk Niamh Morrison said the village had been “incredibly saddened”.

She said: “Milford is a very quiet and close knit-community, so a tragedy like this is incredible shocking for everyone.

“The thoughts and hearts of the parish office are with the friends and family of all those involved.”

As reported by the A&T, a spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We were called just after 1.45pm on Thursday 29th December to a report of the bodies of a 17-year-old girl and 42-year-old woman having been found at an address in Shorefield Road, Downton.

"The deaths are being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

"Their family has been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
