New BCP Council app allows residents to check on queues at Christchurch Household Recycling Centre

RESIDENTS can now see how busy Christchurch’s recycling centre is before visiting with a new mobile phone app launched by BCP Council.

Available to both Apple and Android devices, BCP Tip Check has a traffic light system and live information about queues at its three main facilities including Christchurch tip in Wilverley Road.

The council put the app together in collaboration with smart systems specialist Xpertnest to help tackle road congestion around the sites.

It also provides information about opening hours and services available.

Cllr Mark Anderson, cabinet member for environment, cleansing and waste, said: “The last year has been a particularly busy one at our recycling centres, with over 750,000 cars visiting our three recycling centres and over 40,000 tonnes of waste disposed of in 2021.

“As a local authority, we continue to make improvements in reducing the amount of waste which goes to landfill.

“I’m grateful to all our residents who continue to do their bit and dispose of waste responsibly, so collectively we can recycle as much as possible.”
