A NEW FOREST couple will be appearing on the first episode of a new BBC show, The Customer is Always Right, to showcase their latest invention.

Martin and Kris Andrew of Bedstretch in Ringwood, will be showing off their creation, the PillowShelf, which will be tried and reviewed by five critics for the show that is airing on Easter Monday at 10.45am on BBC One.

Their product is a bed extension which makes a divan bed longer and allowing anyone who has a bed that is too short for them to stretch out in comfort.

Five PillowShelfs were provided to the show to give to the reviewers, and Martin and Kris were invited to the studio to watch the no holds barred reviews of the five separate groups of reviewers.

Kris said: “Martin regularly found that beds were too short for him, resulting in many nights of broken sleep caused by his toes overhanging the edge of the bed.

“A super-king bed helped but when I made a headboard that fixed to the wall and overhung the bed by 3 inches, the super king bed was reduced to 6’3” long and took Martin back to square one.

“Rather than take the headboard away, I challenged him to find a way to make their existing bed longer and the concept of the PillowShelf was born.”

Martin said: “We never thought that other people would be interested until friends started to ask us if they could have one too.

“Being able to keep your own bed and bedding is key and makes it the sustainable option to having a longer bed – no need to buy an expensive new bed, it’s your bed and bedding but six inches longer."

Over the past year they have been working on successfully bringing their invention to market.

Originally a piece of foam-covered wood, it has developed into a free-standing item of furniture that sits at the head end of a divan bed that can be used with or without a headboard.

It is a six-inch (15cm) fully upholstered bed extension and fundamentally changes a user’s sleeping position on their mattress.

It works by supporting the top half of the bed’s pillows, at the same height as the mattress, enabling users to stretch out and sleep in comfort.

Their invention is also fully adjustable and transportable, meaning it can be taken on holiday to hotels and B&Bs, solving sleep problems anywhere.
