New Forest Insp. Darren Ord features in Netflix documentary Car Crash - Who’s Lying?
A senior New Forest police officer features in a special documentary which made the top 10 when recently added to Netflix.
Car Crash – Who’s Lying?, a one-off programme from 2018, follows the extensive investigation into a fatal crash near Portsmouth which led to two cousins being jailed.
District Insp. Darren Ord is among those telling the story as he was on Hampshire police’s serious collision investigation unit at the time.
Reconstructions and dash cam footage help illustrate events from the moments leading up to the collision on 23rd January 2016.
Passenger Luke Fletcher (19) died when a Nissan Almera left the B2177 near Southwick.
Promoting Insp. Ord’s appearance in online posts, local officers said the programme showcased the police teams’ work dealing with the aftermath and establishing the truth.
“If you haven’t seen it yet, please take a moment to watch the hour-long episode, so you too can witness the hard work, dedication and determination of our teams in getting the results they do, ensuring families achieve justice for their loved ones,” the posts said.
Zax Ross-Harris (22) and Danny Ross-Barringer (25), both from Portsmouth, were jailed in April 2017 for eight and six years for causing death by dangerous driving and aiding and abetting respectively.
Welcoming the documentary’s success, Insp. Ord said: “I am pleased it has done well, because there are important messages in there around the consequences of dangerous driving, particularly with young boys together.
“The film also highlights the great work of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. They work on really serious cases and they’re often very complex with lots of use of forensics.
“It’s often an unsung area of investigation, so it’s great to see it highlighted in this way.”
