Driver caught speeding at 60mph on 40mph New Forest route in police crackdown at Beaulieu Hill, Hawkhill Inclosure and Kings Hat car park

A MOTORIST clocked at 60mph on a 40mph route was among the speeders caught in further police crackdowns in the New Forest.

Officers stationed themselves at Beaulieu Hill, the Hawkhill Inclosure and the Kings Hat car park with Country Watch colleagues as part of the ongoing Operation Mountie last Friday evening.

A police Facebook post afterwards reported that although most drivers kept to the limit, two tickets were issued.

As well as the 60mph offender, a ticket was handed to a driver found to have done 51mph.

Facebook users took to the comments to thank the officers and express their frustration at speeders.

“Such selfish people!” one person wrote.

“No respect for the Forest and animals. I travel every day this way and it’s shocking sometimes and I get overtaken regularly!”

Operation Mountie is a multi-agency initiative carried out with partners from Forestry England, the New Forest National Park Authority and the New Forest Roads Awareness Team.
