New Forest Junior String Orchestra among last to be given royal thank-you by Queen

A BEAULIEU youth orchestra was among the last to be given Her Majesty's seal of approval before her death yesterday (Thursday).

Members of the New Forest Junior String Orchestra filmed a special song, Within Our Hearts, at Beaulieu Abbey in June to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

The footage was sent to Her Majesty, who was “most touched” by the youngsters’ efforts.

Orchestra founder and performance director Roger Walling wrote the music to accompany lyrics inspired by youth member Mark Baranenko.

In a letter sent from Buckingham Palace days before the monarch's death, Victoria Tuke, head of the Queen’s private office, passed on her “warm good wishes” to members of the orchestra and Mr Walling.

The letter added: “Her Majesty was most touched by this kind gesture and I have been asked to convey the Queen’s gratitude to the children for their thoughtfulness in sending this video to Her Majesty.”

Mr Walling said: “We were very honoured and proud to receive the letter from Buckingham Palace thanking the children for their efforts.

“The film was recorded in June during the jubilee celebrations but the members spent many weeks before that practising – and they were very sincere in their ambition to do something special to mark the historic occasion.”

A special screening of the children’s recording took place at Lymington Community Centre last month.

New Forest Junior String Orchestra was founded by Mr Walling in 1997 with regular rehearsals in Beaulieu.

It is open to young people aged between six and 14. For more information contact Roger Walling via www.lymingtoncommunity.com
