Police arrest New Milton man in connection with class A drug offences following pursuit
A NEW Milton man has been arrested in connection with class A drug offences following a police pursuit.
Officers had been patrolling in the town last Friday when they spotted a vehicle – which was flagged as having no insurance – travelling along Old Milton Road.
The driver of the vehicle was pursued by police and an item was dropped from the car, before it came to a stop on Gore Road. Police later located the item, which was revealed to be suspected class A drugs.
Hampshire police confirmed the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man from the town, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.
The car was also seized. When officers searched an address in New Milton linked to the man they located further class A drugs, as well as class B drugs and drug paraphernalia.
A police spokesperson added that while they were at the address an officer was assaulted by a second man, who is in his fifties and from New Milton.
He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and has since been released from police custody, but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
The 35-year-old man was released on conditional police bail to allow for further investigation to take place.
The spokesperson added: “These arrests form part of our wider work to disrupt the supply of drugs across the New Forest.
“We would ask people to keep reporting any information about drug supply in your area to us.
“[The public] are our eyes and ears on the ground, and information submitted helps us build up the bigger picture about what is going on so we can take the appropriate action.”
