ON a blustery Sunday afternoon at Ashley the New Milton Rugby Club Colts stood strong against Farnborough U18.

Both teams started nervously but New Milton swiftly settled, and their intense attack put Farnborough under pressure. After seven minutes flanker, Ollie Woodhouse, stormed through the defence to score in the far corner.

In quick succession from the restart flanker, Simon Cooper, slipped through to score again in the far corner. Momentum carried the Milton boys and a dummy pass from fly-half Campbell Golding back inside to full back James Miller increased the lead to 17-0.

Speedy wing play then led to two more tries from Taylor Hurst to give Milton a 29-0 at half-time time advantage.

Milton pulled together, working as a tight team throughout and forwards Liam McCurdy, Frankie McCracken, Tom Belbin and Jack Chartres were consistent at the breakdown. Marc Harburn got the ball out quickly and hard tackles were abundant from Simon Cooper and Alex Baker.

Farnborough came back strongly in the second half and exploited New Milton on the back foot to crash through and score. In response the Milton boys clicked back into action with fantastic support play resulting in a try for centre, Jude Payne.

Farnborough showed resilience by maintaining the pressure on New Milton. This led to an ill-timed challenge leading to a penalty try for the away team.

Normal service was then resumed and through the hands of the backs, two more New Milton tries followed from Toby Budge and Ollie Woodhouse for a resounding 48-12 New Milton victory.
