Myst Hotels and Resorts ‘delighted’ with acquisition of 77-bedroom Careys Manor Hotel & Sen Spa in Brockenhurst

THE new owners of a Brockenhurst hotel say they are “delighted” with their first UK acquisition, with plans to expand its wellness offering.

As the A&T revealed two weeks ago, Careys Manor and Sen Spa, owned by Greenclose Hotels Ltd – which also runs the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu – has been bought by Myst Hotels and Resorts.

Parent company SanRaj Group, founded in 2009 by brothers Sandip and Rajdip Gupta, operates three hotels in India: two in Goa and one at Mumbai airport. The family-owned venture is also involved in a range of sectors including hospitality, sports, technology healthcare, media and entertainment.

Directors Sandip and Rajdip said: “We are delighted to make our first international hotel investment in the United Kingdom with Careys Manor Hotel and Sen Spa. Situated in one of the most picturesque regions of the UK, the hotel has garnered an exceptional reputation for its outstanding hospitality and award-winning spa.

“We look forward to continuing to build on this success by enhancing the guest experience while preserving the essence of what makes Careys Manor so special.”

For 50 years, the 77-bedroom hotel has been owned by family-run business, Greenclose Hotels. During this time the hotel has undergone significant investment including a £6m pound overhaul of its health club into a state-of-the-art Thai spa, an expansion of the east garden wing as well as its multi-functional conference space.

It has been recognised with numerous accolades – including 4 AA Silver Stars, the Good Spa Guide’s ‘Best Spa in the South-East’, and a Green Tourism Gold Award.

In a statement, Myst Hotels and Resorts says it is committed to preserving the hotel’s legacy while introducing “strategic enhancements” that will further elevate the guest experience. It adds: “Building on the success of the award-winning spa, the group plans to further strengthen the hotel’s wellness offering and sustainability credentials ensuring Careys Manor remains a premier choice for both leisure and corporate travellers.”

Managing director of Greenclose Hotels, James Hiley-Jones, added: “We are delighted to be passing on the baton to Myst Hotels and Resorts – a company that shares our values. It has been a rewarding 50-year journey and we are very proud of what we have achieved. Our brilliant team members, some with over 40 years of service, have been key to our success and we know they are in safe hands.”

The site of Careys Manor was part of royal hunting ground ‘Nova Foresta’ established in 1079 by William The Conqueror. The original house was situated in what is now the grounds of Brockenhurst College, but was demolished, with the present manor built in 1888.
