New Tesco Express store planned on site of former car wash on Keyhaven Road in Milford

A NEW Tesco store is set to open in Milford, with recruitment underway for two jobs.

The new Tesco Express will open on the site of a former car wash on Keyhaven Road, at the front of Milford Trading Estate on Laundry Lane.

The site, which has been vacant for a number of months, was previously a hand car wash, and prior to that it was a DIY store and petrol station.

The new shop will be located around 200m from the two existing convenience stores – One Stop and Co-op.

Currently no planning applications relating to the 22 Keyhaven Road site have been submitted to New Forest District Council. However, news of the new store online has attracted a raft of comments from residents.

One said: “There is no denying it will change the area, not in my opinion for the better. It would be more effective to unite to block it than to boycott it in retrospect.”

However, another added: “With all the new housing developments and new younger families moving in there is definitely a need for Tesco.

“I think it’s a great idea and can’t wait for it to open.”

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re always looking for the best ways to serve local communities and we are excited to be opening a new Tesco Express in Milford later this year. We will keep the local community updated with our plans as we get closer to opening.”
